What are the Gulfstream G550 and G650?
The Gulfstream G550 and G650 are large-cabin, ultra-long-range business jets built by Gulfstream Aerospace. The G550 flies up to 6,750 nm and entered service in 2003; the G650 flies up to 7,000 nm (the G650ER 7,500 nm), cruises faster at up to M0.90 and entered service in 2012. Neither is in production any more, so they are chartered or bought on the pre-owned market. Safe Fly Aviation, a New Delhi-based broker, arranges G550 and G650 charter and sales; we do not own or operate the aircraft. Last reviewed October 2026.

Reading the numbers. The G550 range is quoted at M0.80 and the G650 range at M0.85 with eight passengers, so the two are not like-for-like; the G650 reaches 6,400 nm at M0.90. The G650ER is rated at 7,500 nm. Speeds, weights and distances are manufacturer-quoted figures as published by GlobalAir, Business Jet Traveler, AIN, Jetcraft and FlightGlobal; sources differ on some G550 values, which are marked. Operating cost is an estimate from GlobalAir (23 September 2026) and excludes charter margin. Charter ranges are published 2026 market figures from charter marketplaces, before positioning, fees and taxes. Asking prices come from Hagerty Jet Group (G550, Q1 2026) and GlobalAir (G650, September 2026). Always confirm the specification of the individual aircraft you are considering.
Which one?
G550 or G650: Which Should You Charter?
Choose the G550 if
- The sector is within about 5,860 nm, such as Delhi to London, Geneva, Singapore or Tokyo.
- You want the longer cabin (50 ft 1 in) and a lower typical hourly rate.
- Time is less critical than cost: it cruises about 28 kt slower than the G650.
Choose the G650 or G650ER if
- The sector is longer, up to about 6,080 nm on the G650 or 6,520 nm on the G650ER.
- You want the faster cruise (M0.90) and the wider 8 ft 2 in cabin.
- You are planning Delhi to New York nonstop, which only the G650ER supports with a margin.

What you get
What Sets These Gulfstreams Apart
Range for India to Europe and Asia-Pacific
Both aircraft fly Delhi to London, Geneva, Tokyo or Singapore without stopping, and the G650 family reaches 7,000 to 7,500 nm.
Speed
The G650 cruises at up to M0.90 (516 kt), about 28 kt faster than the G550 at its high-speed setting, which saves roughly 25 minutes on a 3,600 nm sector.
Cabin comfort
The G550 cabin is longer by about 3 ft; the G650 cabin is wider by about 10 in. Typical layouts have three living areas on the G550 and up to four on the G650, depending on the aircraft.
Flight deck
The G550 flies with Gulfstream PlaneView; the G650 has PlaneView II with four 14-inch displays and an enhanced vision system.
High altitude
Both are certified to 51,000 ft. Gulfstream quotes a cabin altitude of about 4,100 ft for the G650 at that height, which reduces fatigue on long sectors.
Runway performance
Manufacturer-quoted takeoff distances are about 5,900 ft for both and landing distances about 2,700 ft, so most major business aviation airports are usable.
Routes from India
Nonstop Range From Delhi and Mumbai
Distances are great-circle estimates from the airport coordinates. Flying time is still-air distance at long-range cruise (G550 459 kt, G650 488 kt) plus 30 minutes for climb and approach, rounded to the nearest half hour, and excludes any fuel stop. We apply a 15% planning margin to the quoted range, which puts the practical nonstop limit at about 5,860 nm for the G550, 6,080 nm for the G650 and 6,520 nm for the G650ER.
| Route | Distance | G550 time | G650 time | Nonstop planning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delhi to Dubai | 1,179 nm | about 3 h | about 3 h | Nonstop on all three |
| Delhi to Singapore | 2,245 nm | about 5.5 h | about 5 h | Nonstop on all three |
| Delhi to Tokyo (Haneda) | 3,164 nm | about 7.5 h | about 7 h | Nonstop on all three |
| Delhi to Geneva | 3,429 nm | about 8 h | about 7.5 h | Nonstop on all three |
| Delhi to London (Heathrow) | 3,635 nm | about 8.5 h | about 8 h | Nonstop on all three |
| Mumbai to Sydney | 5,485 nm | about 12.5 h | about 11.5 h | Nonstop on all three |
| Delhi to New York (JFK) | 6,347 nm | about 14.5 h | about 13.5 h | Nonstop on the G650ER only; fuel stop on the G550 and G650 |
| Delhi to Los Angeles | 6,953 nm | about 15.5 h | about 14.5 h | Fuel stop on all three |

Questions
Gulfstream G550 and G650 FAQ
What is the main difference between the Gulfstream G550 and G650?
The G650 is the newer, faster and longer-range aircraft. It is rated at 7,000 nm and M0.90 high-speed cruise, against 6,750 nm and about M0.85 for the G550, and it has a wider cabin (8 ft 2 in against 7 ft 4 in) and more powerful Rolls-Royce BR725 engines. The G550 has the longer cabin (50 ft 1 in against 46 ft 10 in) and usually charters for less per flight hour.
How far can the G550 and G650 fly?
Manufacturer-quoted range is 6,750 nm for the G550 (at M0.80) and 7,000 nm for the G650 (at M0.85 with eight passengers); the G650ER reaches 7,500 nm. These figures use different speeds, so they are not a like-for-like comparison, and real range falls with higher speed, heavier payload and headwinds. Our planning rule is to keep the sector within about 87% of the quoted range.
Can a G550 or G650 fly nonstop from Delhi to London or New York?
Delhi to London is about 3,635 nm, which all three aircraft can plan nonstop. Delhi to New York is about 6,347 nm, so only the G650ER is a realistic nonstop plan; the G550 and G650 would normally add a fuel stop. Delhi to Los Angeles (about 6,953 nm) needs a stop on all three. Distances are great-circle estimates; actual routing and winds change the answer.
How much does it cost to charter a Gulfstream G550 or G650?
Published 2026 charter ranges are roughly $9,000 to $13,000 per flight hour for a G550 and $11,000 to $17,000 for a G650, before positioning, landing and handling fees, catering and taxes. These are market ranges, not a Safe Fly quote. For the same aircraft, estimated operating cost was about $9,483 (G550) and $10,547 (G650) per hour in September 2026. Request a quote for your route and dates.
How many passengers do the G550 and G650 seat?
Maximum seating is quoted at about 18 to 19 for both, depending on the layout. The real number of seats, beds and living zones depends on each aircraft's interior, which we confirm for every quote.
Are the G550 and G650 still in production?
No. G550 production ended in 2021 (the last commercial delivery was on 30 June 2021) and the G650 family ended in February 2025. Both are available through the charter and pre-owned markets, and Gulfstream has since moved to newer models such as the G700.
How much does a Gulfstream G550 or G650 cost to buy?
Pre-owned asking prices run from about $15M to $35M for a G550 (average about $19.3M in the first quarter of 2026) and about $43M to $53M for a G650 family aircraft (average about $48M; G650ER about $46M in September 2026). Price depends on age, hours, maintenance status and interior. See our pre-owned G650 market overview or aircraft for sale.
What is the Gulfstream G650ER?
The G650ER is the extended-range version of the G650, rated at 7,500 nm against 7,000 nm. It is the aircraft that makes nonstop India to the US East Coast flights realistic. Our G650 comparison guide goes into more detail, and Global 6500 vs G650ER compares it with its main rival.
